With the newest budget proposal for the 2020 fiscal year, it looks like libraries are going to be getting a massive cut.

This new budget proposal by Trump is looking to permanently eliminate Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This group helps to fund libraries and provide grants.

What does this mean?

All funding to public libraries would end.

“The proposal would also cut funding to the Department of Education by 10%, including support for the Innovative Approaches to Literacy program.” (BookRiot, 2019).

Thankfully the American Library Association will be working even harder to get their funding back.

I honestly don’t know what I would do if all the funding to public libraries ended. Maybe some were survive, if they went private, and wealthy individuals supported them. However that can bring a whole host of problems in, such as being able to sensor what the library have and it would become such a mess – or potentially could.

Libraries are a place you can read and enjoy yourself and save money!
