Review
I honestly don’t think that movies can get any bigger than this one. I mean we had explosions left and right, we had Transformers dying, we had the most epic of cars (from the classic to the new, from the badass to the exotic), we had supernatural beings, we had plants eating other planets…I mean Michael Bay literally has the best job ever. He probably just says, “How in the world can I f@%& stuff up beyond anyone’s wildest dreams?” I aspire to be him!
So, visually this movie was stunning. The graphics were incredible and the explosions were big. So it was a big movie! The colors were vivid, so it had the slightly larger-than-life feel but it was never too far out there that it was totally unrealistic (I mean, Transformers are totally real guys! I park Bumblebee in my garage).
The music, ONCE AGAIN, was absolutely superb. Steve Jablonsky is amazing when it comes to soundtracks. Since day one of Transformers 1, all of those years back, he has impressed me. This one did not disappoint. I love listening to the music while I study, or while I write blog posts. It’s so beautiful and so epic. He really is a master when it comes to capturing the scene/moment and turning it into notes. The music created an air that added to the movie, per usual.
The story itself was pretty good too. It had a few moments in the beginning like…where is this going? But then it would tie together. There were a few moments that I could tell that they had cut a few scenes out, as a person would show up and you wouldn’t know how they got there, and an explanation would be left out, but it didn’t detract from the movie for me. They had to do it because the movie was 154 minutes long. I mean that’s a long movie. It honestly didn’t feel like it though. Transformers 4 felt like it was long and had moments that it felt like it should have ended but it kept going, however this one kept you engaged.
There was some fantastic comedy too! The British Transformer butler, Cogman, was absolutely hilarious! I mean he was a great Transformer to put in it. Hot Rod, another new character, though you didn’t get to see tons of him, was a pretty funny Transformer as well. Then you had Anthony Hopkins. I mean this guy is incredible (he’s not a Transformers). I always see him play this very classy character, and in no movies really like this. Sure, he was in Silence of the Lambs, but this was just tons of action and I wasn’t sure what to expect from him. But he gave a great performance! He was classy and funny and just a joy to watch! I absolutely loved him in the movie!
The banter between Cade and Vivian was pretty good as well. Of course there was a very slight amount of romance there, but nothing that detracted. They mostly were just bickering back and forth which was hilarious.
All the Autobots, and Decepticons, got upgrades and were sexy as heck! So it was nice to see them as their original cars, but modernized!
Honestly I loved this movie. It may be up there as one of my favorite Transformers movies (however there was no Ironhide – once he died…the series all got a little dimmer (he was my favorite Autobot)). I highly recommend watching it if you like the series.
Have you seen it? What did you think?
Happy Watching!
