1 month until Christmas! Time to start planning!!

BuzzFeed came up with some great gifts for book lovers.

Some are a little silly while others are really smart! I love the first one. Especially if you’re reading a really long book with small print!

May have to get some of these for the book lovers in my life!

National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month when the Academy of American Poets helps us to stop and take note, appreciate and discover poetry. Throughout American poetry is celebrated with readings, events, activities for students, encouragement to write your own poetry and it ends with Poem in Your Pocket Day (April 30).  Whatever you do, or wherever you live spend some time during this month reading, writing, reciting poetry. Find a poetry slam. Or if you can’t find one get some of your friends together and have your own. If you want to find out more go HERE or check out some of the many links here in Poetry and Poetry Month tags. There are lots of good poems. No, make that lots of great poems. Some serious, some funny, some deeply thought provoking, some just plain silly. And stop by the rest of the month for some new and interesting poems.

Whatever you do enjoy some poems!

Earth Day My Love For You, Sweet Earth by Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev

For Earth Day some things to ponder.

A Poem My Love For You, Sweet Earth

My love for you, sweet Earth, my mother,
I cannot hide – I do not crave
The phantom pleasures of that other,
That spectral world beyond the grave.
O spring, the blessedness of Eden
Compared to yours as nothing is!
Love’s joys you bring us all unbidden,
And golden dreams, and light, and bliss.

What rapture to drink in the balmy,
Warm air of spring, to languor wed,
And watch the clouds drift slowly, calmly
High in the blueness overhead;
To wander happily and idly
Across a field and past a stream,
To catch the scent of blooming lilac
Or chance upon a radiant dream!..

And some wonderful pictures of spring HERE. via HERE.

Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou celebrated her birthday a few days ago (April 4) and what better way to pay tribute than by reading one of her poems? She is a powerhouse of literary merit and her written and spoken words make you stop, think and consider. Her words are chosen with care and beauty and her writing is powerful.

Phenomenal Woman ~ Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
‘Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
