Gift Giving, With Love (and a ball of wool)

As we are now full swing in the season of gift giving do you find yourself running around crazily searching for the perfect gift?

Well search no more.

In line with the thinking that hand-made gifts are the best as they are creative, made with love, and so on……

Here is the perfect thing for just about everyone in your life.

How cool to be able to knit some of the wonderful characters of Christmas? Reindeer, Santa and more! They would make the perfect gift to give to that special person.

Of course, you do have to be able to knit…….

Holiday Helper

There is so much going on at the moment, it feels like the world is spinning too much. So much to do, so little time. So, once again here to help you with some gift ideas for others (or yourself……yours elf!!) here are some excellent suggestions.

Amie Borst of From The Mixed Up Files blog has written a lovely piece about holiday traditions in her home with a great list of books in various subjects. Here. Thanks Amie, wonderful suggestions.

If you are into technology you have to check this out. Full explanation is here. Technology, kids and reading is something we have touched on before but this has them listening to books. Here at MLCWO we love listening to books and have our favorite readers as well as books. This looks like it could be the perfect addition to a child’s development of reading – supplementing the books, of course. While checking the site out (rather quickly) Rodney Yee (cool yoga dude) was found doing a little meditation piece…..not sure if they are planning to move into adults as well…..or maybe it was for the harassed mother in the introductory video.

Book Blogger Holiday Swap Gifts

So, I came home yesterday after a really long day (and even longer week), and what fun! there was a box on my desk with my Secret Santa gifts. Snuggled inside were two books – how exciting! The two books I received were City of Bones by Cassandra Clare and Dracula by Bram Stoker. An older classic and a new to be classic. I look forward to reading them and when I have, you can expect a review from me. If you have read either of the books tell me your opinion because I would be interested to hear what you have to say.

What a great idea…..Secret Santa!

FunDay Friday

Christmas is coming up soon and I thought that instead of sharing a video just yet I would share this really cool website. It is named Elf Yourself and it is powered by OfficeMax and it is so much fun to do. I just love doing it. What you do is you take a picture of yourself or whatever and you crop it and put it on this elf and you choose a dance for it and it starts dancing. Hope you have some fun.

My Favorite Holiday Books

The Christmas Humbugs by Colleen Monroe, Illustrated by Michael Glen Monroe

“They come in full of mischief
to play naughty little games,
like ripping holes in stockings
and breaking candy canes.
They aren’t trying to be nasty,
in fact the opposite is true,
they’re testing Christmas Spirit
and how strong it is in you.”

– The Christmas Humbugs

This is a great Christmas book to read. Even though I never read picture books anymore, I love reading this book and many others during Christmas time. The illustrations in this book are fabulous, they are colorful and fun to look at. There is so much going on, every time you read it there is something new to see. The writing is done in poem form to keep the reader interested. Sometimes I just like looking at the pictures and seeing what I can see. So hopefully you will try to find this book because I am sure that it will be loved by one and all.

Auntie  Claus by Elise Primavera

This is such a cute book with the illustrations. In this story a girl named Sophie was curious where the elevator went and she found out that it went to where Santa lived. This book was about learning the true meaning of Christmas. The illustrations are wonderful and it is a lovely read. I have been reading this book for about 5-6 years now and I still love reading it.

Christmas is such a wonderful time to pull out picture books. They almost put you in the best mood of the season as much as hot chocolate and cookies.
