Books To Read While You Relax This Summer

If you’re anything like me, and a lot of other people, it’s hard to choose what to read during the summer.

Unlike in the winter when you can curl up inside and remove a lot of distractions from your point of view, summer reading is harder.

You go and sit outside and get distractions, such as when you’re at the beach.

So what should you read?!

Books To Read While You Relax This Summer

No fear! The NY Times has a list of 73 Books to Read While the Sun Is Out and the Days Are Long. I highly recommend checking this list out (but remember you’re only allowed 5 free reads a month for articles at the NY Times).

I just bought my subscription to them and am so happy! As a student, it’s only $1 a week (so you get charged $4 a month) which is nothing considering the great quality of information you get!

So worth it!

Don’t Know What To Read?

Stuck for suggestions for a something to read? Going stir crazy with winter? MLCWO to the rescue.

How about checking out the new book of short stories by Kelly Link? The stories described as eery, gothic, surreal are something that might hit the spot on a cold winters day. HERE Read more about Kelly HERE.

However, if you are stuck and can’t get to the library The Guardian has got a free read available on their website. Despite the fact it appears for children the story has an interesting take and it is free. Free. HERE.

Enjoy!

Want To Be Read To?

Do you remember when you were little and your mother (or some other ‘older’ person) read you to sleep? Soft, dreamy voices that lulled you into drowsiness and you drifted off into the night? Or had you howling with laughter as they tried to keep all the character voices in Harry Potter straight and correct? (no Mommy,  that’s not Hermoine, it’s Hagrid!)

Well, if you want to recapture those days with someone reading to you this is for you. Let your eyes rest and listen to the story. In case you haven’t enjoyed an audio book (or book on tape as they were once called) the kind folks over at Mashable have compiled a list of free (yes, free!!!!!) sites where you can get some reading done for you. HERE. Many of the books are classics, and there is a selection of educational and children’s books but if you haven’t discovered the fun in audio books this might be a good place to start. So, if you have ‘road trip’ in your future, long plane flight, hours of laundry, or just are too tired to hold a book pop on over and check some of the sites out. Not sure if these are only for US based addresses but go try anyway. Also, go to the library as many libraries have either books on cd’s or downloadable books and these are more likely to be best sellers and a wide variety of genres.

Let me know what you find and how you like it.

“Nancy Pearl Turns Back The Pages With Picks From The Past”

There are many great books which came out this year, but what about the ones that you missed?
Nancy Pearl compiled a short list of some books which she loved but were not in the popular lists.

There is also a great podcast which I think that you will all enjoy as well.

Click here to see the short list of some quite interesting books.

I think I’m going to be checking a few of them out because they look quite good and the podcast made me want to check them out more.

Any you think  you’re going to look at?
