Lord Of Shadows Book 2

Summary

“Princess Breena had been dreaming of her warrior lover when she was ripped from her Elden castle and thrown into a strange, dangerous realm. Lost and alone, she prayed for survival and vengeance for her stolen kingdom. She found both in a woodland cottage…in a dark bear of a man.

The golden-haired beauty had eaten his food and slept in his bed when Osborn found her. Though he wanted to awaken his virgin princess to carnal pleasures, Breena wanted more—including his warrior skills. Skills the once-legendary mercenary had long buried. Now Osborn had a choice—risk his life or deny his princess her fairy-tale ending.”

Review

Honestly, I really disliked this book and I really disliked this entire series so far. I have read book 1 and book 4 so far and only have book 3 to go but so far I really don’t like the series. The writing and the story lines are horrible. It is the traditional guy and girl and girl falls for guy and does everything for him with a little bit of action. I just hate it.

And the female gives herself up so fast and I really dislike that too. It’s just the writing is so simple and everything about it is so simple and cliché. I know that the writers of these books are well-known writers, such as Nalini Singh (who I love as you know) but these stories were written for Harlequin so they were supposed to be the traditional quick reads that everyone likes.

But I’m not everyone.

Sure, if you’re looking for a quick fix and an easy read and a traditional story line, this might be the book for you, but otherwise I really dislike them. They definitely aren’t worth buying and are a one time read in my opinion.

But, other romance lovers out there may enjoy the book. It does fit the traditional romance novel bill. But of course, once again, they are adult books with adult content.

If this is your type of book, then happy reading to you because as a classical romance story it works just fine.

But if you are looking for something with more meat to it and just more to the story/series overall, then give these ones a miss.

Review

Honestly, this was a REALLY good book. It was quite similar to Ready or Not? by Tina Radziszewicz.

You know, sex and sexuality is a huge part of the modern day and age. It’s in movies and on signs and everything! You’re exposed to it at such a young age. And everyone has questions. But who, honestly, wants to ask their parents these kinds of things? Would you really ask your friends because I’m pretty sure most teens are either too afraid to ask the questions to seem stupid or not comfortable with asking those kinds of questions. And would you actually google it in fear that someone saw it? It’s hard!

But this book answers all the questions that you’d be too afraid to ask.

And I mean all of them!

There isn’t much to say about this book except that it was perfect for teens who may want questions answered and I do highly recommend checking it out and seeing if your question is in here.

Because of the questions, I do say 16 years or older.

Happy reading!

Review

Every teenage girl has questions about her body, about sexuality, and everything that goes with it. And it’s not like they have 16 years to grow up to get there and have many years of parental experience and advice to guide them. With 10 year olds, or younger, being in relationships and/or having sex, parents don’t really have the conversations with their kids. I mean what parent wants to talk with their 10 year old about sex? What parent really wants to talk to their kid about sex at all? Sex is a conversation, and topic, which is prevalent in society. Everything in society is sexualized, whether it be clothing, music, or movies. Yet when someone tries to have a conversation about sex, everything dies and people try and change the topic as fast as they can, or they dance around it with words like “when you do it” or “you know…”.

No one wants to spit it out, get to the point and get it done with. But, this book really does do that. The author doesn’t mince her words and she doesn’t dance around the topic. She breaks it up into organized sections and then sub sections after that and covers the topic with the information needed, and moves on. Tina talks about everything which makes us uncomfortable from the mysterious self-gratification to self-pleasure (not using the crude terms incase there are young ones) and beyond. She covers literally everything that no parent really wants to cover with their child. And this book tells you the risks of everything as well.

Honestly, if you are a parent and slightly uncomfortable starting the conversation off with your kid, this is a great place to start. While I do recommend it for 16 and older, as there are things in here that a younger child probably doesn’t know or shouldn’t know, it’s still useful as a starting place.

Overall I do really suggest checking this out. It’s a great self-help book for teens and a great place for parents to start off as well.

Enjoy reading.

Archangel’s Shadows by Nalini Singh

Summary

Return to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s sensual and painfully beautiful Guild Hunter world in her new novel of sacrifice, loyalty, and the choices of love that can shatter the heart.

In the wake of a brutal war, the archangel Raphael and his hunter consort, Elena, are dealing with the treacherously shifting tides of archangelic politics and the people of a battered but not broken city. The last thing their city needs is more death, especially a death that bears the eerie signature of an insane enemy archangel who cannot—should not—be walking the streets.

This hunt must be undertaken with stealth and without alerting their people. It must be handled by those who can become shadows themselves…

Ash is a gifted tracker and a woman cursed with the ability to sense the secrets of anyone she touches. But there’s one man she knows all too well without a single instant of skin contact: Janvier, the dangerously sexy Cajun vampire who has fascinated and infuriated her for years. Now, as they track down a merciless killer, their cat-and-mouse game of flirtation and provocation has turned into a profound one of the heart. And this time, it is Ash’s secret, dark and terrible, that threatens to destroy them both.

Review

So this is the 7th book in the series and oh my god I’m still so in love with it. The character development so is there and there are so many characters that you just can never get bored. With 7 books you would think that the series would get old, but since there are so many characters and some books concentrate on other characters, you just can’t stop reading. I mean, I just found this list of Guild Hunter characters and to say I’m impressed is an understatement.

This one was about Ash and Janvier, who you hadn’t really met before now. They had appeared in passing, well Ash had, but otherwise you didn’t really know who the two of them were, so you got this whole other side going on. I really liked this book too because you got to see another side of Naasir, who is the feline like vampire, who I always thought was cool (the next book coming out is, Archangel’s Enigma, is about him). Ash, Janvier and Naasir were like a team so you started to see the other side of some of the characters, especially when they went to all hang out at the small party in the book.

It was definitely a lighter book that the other ones and there was less sex and more just dancing around each other, which was definitely different, but in a good way. I figured that the reason for this was that the main characters name was Ashwini and it was dedicated to one of her real life friends who goes by that name (or so I assume as she is Nalini’s assistant) so of course that can sometimes be kinda awkward to write. But, not every romance book in a romance series has to have a lot of steamy moments. It honestly gets boring, very fast. Well, some people really like it because that’s what they read the book for, but as a reader and a blogger, I look for more in a book, and series, so I was happy that this changed it up a little bit.

I mean, I could gush for hours and hours about this book and series because I’ve read each book in the series about 3-4 times, with Archangel’s Blade being read like 6 times. It’s sad, but I just can’t get enough of it. It’s such a good series to read because since there are so many locations visited, so many characters, and so much going on, each time you read it you can find something new and exciting in the book that you might not have noticed the last…erm…4 times you read it.

Also the cover of this book was so different. The colors from the rich orange and the warmth radiated from that color, to the dark and cold area where Janvier resided to show his life style kinda: the heat of the female and the coolness of the cold and calculated vampire who is a killer. And I mean how can you not love a badass woman with a badass men behind her. Hot hot hot xD

But please, READ THIS SERIES! Like you don’t understand. I. Am. Obsessed.

Okay, well you might understand it. But like, please. Read it.

And enjoy it. And contact me and talk to me about this book, because….I need someone who understands my love.

Anyone? Please?

Review

Yes, I did once again screw up a reading order. I feel like this has become a habit for me, not paying attention to the number that is in very small print somewhere on the cover of the book or inside the cover. But, thankfully it still kinda made sense without it.

So I thought it was really an interesting story and an idea of how it was written with the creatures and the lore that they used behind it. Now of course, since I didn’t start with book once, because I’m so stupid, some things didn’t really add up, as to why certain people were there, how Liliana got to where she was going, and such things like that, but if I read the full series (which I will as I’m waiting for book 1 to come in), then the answers will be given and I’ll be able to repost this review with more information! xD

While the book was a classical Harlequin bodice ripper kind of book, compared to Nalini Singh’s other writing, this didn’t stand up at all. Her Guild Hunter series was way better because there was more character development, the writing was more descriptive, and it was just overall a more enjoyable read. I understand why it was like that, because Harlequin novels are for people who want a quick fix of romance and simple writing is what they want, while her series has so much more going on. So it made sense, but compared to her other writing, it didn’t stand up that much.

The character development also wasn’t as much as in her other books. The main male in the book, Micah, was so terrifying but suddenly had this interest in Liliana and fell for her so far, such as it is in Harlequin novels. But compared to her Guild Hunter books, where a romance takes time and there is always an edge of danger, it was quite different.

The cover of the book did draw me in. I mean, of course there was a shirtless male which was a nice bonus, but the coloring was interesting: a vibrant purple.

The sex in the book wasn’t too graphic overall, the use of language light and less crass the others, but of course, once again, it’s for 18 and older definitely.

Overall it was an enjoyable read, and I do recommend it, though I need to read the rest of the series now and figure out what was going on to answer a few questions I did have.

Happy reading!
