Review

I thought that this book was actually quite good. I had heard a lot of really good reviews of it on other book blogging sites, but when it first came out I decided not to read it. But when I was in the library the other day I saw the sequel to it and I thought, ‘Huh, maybe I should look into it.’ So I ordered the first book and my mother brought the book home and in one day I had completed it. It was not a hard book to read but the story was really captivating. It was a love story with the twist of other worldly beings – archangels. The characters were described really well and some chapters in the book were flirtatious but it never went to the part of girlfriend and boyfriend. I am dying to read the next book because this one was so good.

Another reason for me wanting to pick up the book was because of the cover. It shows this archangel falling from the sky. It made me wonder what the book was about. I really believe that a good cover makes a person want to pick it up. I have pick up quite a few book recently because of their covers.

So I would definitely recommend you to read it. Also I really think that this book would make an amazing movie and I really hope it will be. It would be like twilight, but a little less popular. So tell me what you think of the book and enjoy.

Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck

Summary

Kelsey did not think that she would be working at a circus with Tiger’s. That was the last thing that she expected. But when the Tiger is bought and she is offered to go with him to India, she does not pass up the opportunity. Ren, the Tiger, and Kelsey have to break a 300-year-old Indian curse. She has to solve the curse as it is the only thing which will help Ren be kind of normal again.

Review

W.O.W. This book was absolutely amazing. I was captured by the story and could not put the book down. This was a love story more than an adventure story but the love was based around adventure. In the book the Tiger and Kelsey had a special bond because every 24 hours, Ren has 24 minutes to turn into this gorgeous man. “He’s like James Bond, Antonio Banderas, and Brad Pitt all rolled into one,” Kelsey thinks. Kelsey is absolutely taken with him but as the book progresses things change and throughout the book, you feel their emotions growing for each other. Ren is older than 300 years but he looks like he is 21 and Kelsey is about 18 I believe and so it is obvious she falls for him.

I would recommend people to read this book because it was soooo good. 🙂 I also think that it would make a really good movie because of the story line. Does anyone else out there agree with me????? Also, this book came out at the beginning of 2011 so it is Hot Off The Press!! So go to your local library and read it. I would even recommend getting it. Enjoy.

Will Grayson Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan

20 pages. That was all that I read. This was because of what was in the book. You can read the review here. But since I did not read the book I do not know much about the story but I am going to tell you this from what I read. There is a lot of cursing in this book. You pretty much have every word in the cursing dictionary. Everything from hell to the -eff word. CommonSenseMedia.org rates if ok for 15 year olds but I would have to disagree. On their website I would advise younger readers not to look at the description of this book because all of the words are spelled out and no young readers should know about 3/4 of the words on the page. There is also a lot of sex talk.

I put this book down because it was vulgar. I did not want to read anymore so I just gave it up. If you would like to read it be my guest and tell me how you found it. But personally, I do not want my head filled with all of these disgusting images so if you are that type of person who likes keeping their head clean, stay away from the book.

Hacking Timbuktu by Stephen Davies

Hacking Timbuktu by Stephen Davies

MLCWO Rating: 4/5

Opinion: A fast paced witty book about teens and their impressive hacking ability.

Summary

“Danny is a freelance IT specialist—that is, a hacker. He and his pal Omar are both skilled at parkour, or freerunning, a discipline designed to enable practitioners to travel between any two points regardless of obstacles. This is fortunate, because they’re off on an adventure that’s filled with obstacles, from locked doors to gangs of hostile pursuers. Together they follow a cryptic clue, find a missing map, figure out how to get to Timbuktu without buying a plane ticket, and join the life-and-death treasure hunt, exchanging wisecracks and solving the puzzle one step at a time.An exotic setting and gripping suspense, as well as an absorbing introduction to parkour, make this thriller a genuine page-turner.”

Review

This was quite a good book and was not confusing as you might think it would be because it is about hacking. It can always be a little 50/50 with these books – them being too technical or not technical enough and silly. But this one fit in the middle perfectly! This book kept you turning pages because you wanted to know what happened and I just couldn’t put it down. I mean, I read this book in under 6 hours because it was that exciting. It was full of stuff constantly happening, and it just made you want to read more.

My one complaint was that the characters in the book were not really described well because you never got a physical description of them. I don’t always mind that because I can make up my own image in my head but having a basic idea of who they are and what they’re like can be nice. It had a lot of humor in it as the two hackers were teenagers (16 and the other one was in the later teens) and they were going on at each other but it was usually funny. So this was a really great books and I strongly suggest that you check this book out. It is worth reading and I really think that a movie should be made of this. It would be a box office hit.

What is Parkour?

I am sure that there are quite a few people who do not know what parkour is (myself included) so I will tell you what it is. It is to use skills like jumping, running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, and wall scaling to get around different obstacles. In this book the boys could get off a 2 story building by using parkour becuase they used ledges around them and trees to drop the the ground. Here is a video of about parkour. This is part one of five of a Discovery Channel Documentary and part of it is in French but just watch because that is all you need to see to understand parkour.

Dracula by Bram Stoker

Summary

In this 114 year old novel, Bram Stoker tells the horrorfying story of a century old vampire terrorizing Mina Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, Jonathan, and many others. This story is about the fight of the fittest. The fight between the Immortal and the Mortal. Between the Dead and the un-Dead. With Dracula loose in town there is no telling what will happen, when it will happen, where it will happen. This is no bed time story – and there is no happily ever after.

Review

Finally, after many hours of reading this book it is finished. I think that this is the only book that took me about two months to read. You might be wondering why it took me so long to complete this novel. It was because of the writing. This book is written in proper English. Not  simplified, modern-day, easy-to-read English. You might think that reading Stephen King is hard because it is adult writing, but if you compare Bram Stoker to Stephen King, King is so much easier. This is because this book was written 114 years ago and the writing style was very different then. So, if you are planning to read this book be prepared for longer sentences (I mean like paragraph long sentences with lots of commas, semi-colons, colons  and so on), complex ideas, complex words and smaller print.

Also this book was not written in the third person but in different views. It was written like a journal of all the characters mushed up. It is hard to explain how it was written but it was an interesting style. You will have to read or look at the book to understand what I am saying.

Bram Stoker did a very good job writing this book because it was exciting, and things happened which you didn’t expect. I am not going to say that it kept you turning pages because sometimes I just did not want to turn the page because it felt a little boring in places. I was dragging this book out. When I said that it was “boring” and  my mother heard me say that  she said that I found Dracula “boring” because most YA books are so packed with action. It is like boom, boom, boom one thing after another. Like movies in 3D, lots of action and noise to keep you going. Books today have much shorter sentences. You don’t have to concentrate so long. Just compare a Dan Brown paragraph to a Bram Stoker paragraph, then you will see just what I mean.

This book was a gift from my Secret Santa from the Holiday Swap and as soon as I opened the box in December and I saw that book I was like, “GOT TO READ IT.” My mom warned me that it was going to be different. She warned me that it was going to be harder. But being the person that I am, I ignored her. Now that I look back, maybe I should have listened and waited a bit. Now that I have finished this book, on my vacation, I am going to have a Dracula Movie Fest and watch all of the Dracula movies. The one with Bela Lugosi, the Mel Brooks spoof, and any other one which I am allowed to watch. Let’s see who does the best version. Stayed tuned for more!

I hope that there are a few brave souls (don’t want any sole-less people reading this now do we?) out there would will embark to read this book. If you do, enjoy, and if you do not, I hope that you do read it one day.
