Honestly, I had a few minutes to spare and I love little quizzes like this! A great way to waste time.

What do you think? I was tempted to make some more fun ones now and then.

Tell me down in the comments if you got an old-fashioned book or an e-book!

Review

I was pretty disappointed with this movie to be blunt. When I saw the first trailer for it I was a little iffy already but because it looked, visually, beautiful I hoped that it would get better. Then the movie came out and I didn’t hear much about it anywhere. Some of the soundtrack songs came up on Spotify at some point and I was cringing at the auto-tuning. It hurt my musical soul.

Visually, it was gorgeous.

Something about this movie was gorgeous. I mean it was colorful and lots of fantastical elements. It was based on a animation so that’s expected but it really did have some gorgeous moments. But to me, that was the only thing that it had that was good.

The music was….painful.

The songs are classic. I grew up with Aladdin and all of the other classic Disney animations and then this just destroyed it. Will Smith doesn’t really sing and they autotuned the hell out of him and everyone else. It just killed it honestly. I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t really notice it because music producers have gotten much better at autotuning but if you really know what you look for you can’t miss it. So that just killed the soundtrack for me.

The story-line was cringy as live action.

I’m not sure what it was about it because as far as I remember the story line was pretty much the same, but it was quite cringy to watch as live action. There was nothing new, just rehashing the old story as live action. And to me it was just awkward to watch. Not awkward as in inappropriate but it just seemed like the directors were trying to make the live action as the animation and it didn’t work.

Disney needs to stop with this live action stuff.

I love animations and I love live action as well. Some of these live action movies have been fantastic but with so many of the classics being made into live action now they’re doing it too fast. They’re making these movies for the sake of making them and to get more money.

The movie felt rushed. The animations were meh, the story was meh, the music was meh, the cast was meh. Honestly, I’m glad I watched it on my computer because I was able to skip through parts because it was just…crap.

I know that some people really liked it and it’s one to add to the collection, but I just couldn’t get into it and enjoy it.

Happy Watching!

NaNoWriMo 2019

November is rapidly approaching and you know what that means!

NaNoWriMo!

What is NaNoWriMo you may be asking? It’s National Novel Writing Month which is in November. This is a month dedicated to writing.

You don’t have to have any skills or talents when it comes to writing. You just have to have passion and an interest.

You got that? Then head over to NaNoWriMo.org!

It’s completely FREE and so much fun.

From NaNoWriMo.org

What do I do?

You create a log in and a profile. You can add as little or as much as you want about yourself.

Find your regional group. There are real-life meet ups where you can go to meet with fellow WriMo’s.

If you don’t feel comfortable about that, fear not! There’s tons of online writing sessions which are tons of fun! You do word dashes, follow prompts from bots and friends and have a blast.

Your profile has your story on it and all the info to do with your goals.

The overall goal is 50,000 words which is the length of the average book, but no worries if you can’t reach it. I never do.

You write to have fun! Not be stressed.

You can meet up with people, make online friends and just have an incredible time. I’ve been part of it for 9+ years now. I’m not always as active as I am in other years but I join in the fun!

If you choose to join in, add me on there! I’d love to see your progress!

It’s a darn fun time and I highly recommend it if you’re interested in writing.

There’s tons of forums to find writing suggestions and you can ask questions to the whole NaNoWriMo community if you get stuck. It’s super supporting.

I hope to see you there and that you’re as excited to get writing as I am!

Good luck!

Where Books Are Burnt & Why It Is Wrong

This post contains affiliate links. Please see my full disclosure here.

Book burning has been something that I’ve been seeing now and then that artists and people on Instagram are taking a part of. Is it beautiful to see? Absolutely. There’s something gorgeous about paper burning in general. But the idea behind book burning can be a very painful one which is why a lot of people lash out when they see it.

In 1823, Heinrich Heine wrote, “Dort wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man auch am Ende Menschen” which translates to “Where books are burned, in the end, people will also be burned.” Heine was a German write, poet and critic of literature.

But why is this quote important? The Nazis.

During WWII, not only did the Nazi’s burn books but they would burn people, or at least corpses.

These book bonfires are a very strong symbol of intolerance and censorship.

In famous works of literature like Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, firefighters start fires to destroy books. Books are not just words but feelings, ideas and can be the soul of the individual who wrote it.

So while the idea of book burning may not seem like a big deal, especially with the fact that many of these books are available digitally, it’s the message behind it.

Book burning is one of the oldest forms of censorship, barring physically silencing an individual.

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum created an incredible video which helps explain it further.

The Nazi’s decided to burn books that were classified to be “un-German” but what classifies as that? This is a subjective decision which is why it is censorship as well as oppression. If the book doesn’t fit the world that the leader wanted (ie Hitler) then the book was destroyed.

If you are considering burning a book for imagery, in many cases it will not be taken as a cute photo or something lighthearted. To make a statement or get a point across it may be an option but to do it to get a few likes, well do not be terribly surprised if it is met with some backlash.

What are your thoughts on the idea of burning books? Do you think that people doing it now for artistic purposes are alright to do so? Or do you think that there is some significance? If they’d like to burn books for artistic purposes, how do you think they could get around the ‘taboo’ nature of doing so?

Review

This was one of those books that I started at book #4 or something and then realized it was a series. I have a habit of doing this with books, especially romance ones. But thankfully it wasn’t too confused to start in the middle and then later pick up book #1. I decided to read the whole series, or as much as I can.

Honestly, this book was super cute! Yes, it is an adult book because there is sex. Duh. I mean, I would hope you can tell from the cover.

It’s one of those books that you purchase for the beach or just to read with a glass of wine. Not really to analyze like you would a classic. It’s a very simple read and one you can just let your mind wander in. Relatively.

One thing which I REALLY loved about this book was the writing style. With the Scots, you were really able to get into their minds and mannerisms because their conversations and sentences were written in a Scottish style. So the words were abbreviated in the way it should be pronounced. It is a little confusing in the beginning if you’re not used to it or unfamiliar with how the Scots talk, however if you speak it out loud a few times, it gets it into your head and all makes perfect sense.

I really enjoyed the strong yet feminine women in the books. They were strong Scottish or British lasses so they didn’t take any BS from their partners or families, but they were still feminine and realistic for the time period that the book was set in, which I adore! If you’ve been here for a while, you know I love a strong female character who can handle herself well. Of course this book did have the male coming in and saving the lady many many times, as it is with these series, but I just loved it in general. Well done overall.

There honestly isn’t too much to say about these books without giving the book away because it’s simple.

Woman exists. Man meets woman. Man gets in a relationship with woman. Evil person shows up. Tries to either hurt man or woman. Someone saves the day. Happy ever after.

There’s a generic formula used for these books so while all the books in this series are relatively similar, there are unique twists and turns which makes each book unique.

Honestly, I really enjoyed it. For that, I will give it 4 out of 5 teacups!

4 Teacups

Happy reading!
