As England has William Shakespeare. Scotland has Robert Burns.
A writer of beautiful language and imagery he wrote hundreds of poems ranging from love, to people to toothache. It is tradition is Scotland to honor him with a Burns Night Supper where he is toasted and remembered for his contributions.
So for Scottish visitors to MLCWO and in honor of his birthday today, January 25, a little homage to one of the world’s greatest crafter of words.
A Red Red Rose
O my Luve’s like a red, red rose, That’s newly sprung in June: O my Luve’s like the melodie, That’s sweetly play’d in tune.
As fair art thou, my bonie lass, So deep in luve am I; And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a’ the seas gang dry.
Tilla’ the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi’ the sun; And I will luve thee still, my dear, While the sands o’ life shall run.
And fare-thee-weel, my only Luve! And fare-thee-weel, a while! And I will come again, my Luve, Tho’ ’twere ten thousand mile!
First off, I would really like to thank Abigail Thomas and Cathleen Slagle for hosting this Secret Santa this year. it was so easy and was so much fun!!!! It’s amazing how all these bloggers could come together and do a Secret Santa, and everyone is a different kind of blog niche, so how fun!
Second, I would like to thank my Secret Santa….drumroll please…..

Best part is, she’s a college student like me so how exciting!
So today is my birthday and after trudging through the snow to get home with the nasty snow storm which magically appeared over night, I came home only to find my Secret Santa gift having arrived. Since it was a small birthday this year, it was wonderful to get this little surprise and of course I had to open it up.
Inside was…..just kidding!!! You’re going to need to check back on Christmas Day to find out who my absolutely wonderful Secret Santa was as well as what goodies I was gifted!
Is this a shameless plug to get you to check back on Christmas Day when you are opening your own gifts? You can bet it is! Because I want to make sure everyone goes and checks out my Secret Santa’s website because it rocks. That will be one of my gifts to you.
But you’ll need to wait. Painful, huh?
It’s like seeing that big gift under the tree 10 days before Christmas that your estranged aunt had delivered and you are just dying to know what is inside.
“Savor the magic of the season with Debbie Macomber’s newest Christmas novel, filled with warmth, humor, the promise of love, and a dash of unexpected adventure.
Ashley Davison, a graduate student in California, desperately wants to spend the holidays with her family in Seattle. Dashiell Sutherland, a former army intelligence officer, has a job interview in Seattle and must arrive by December 23. Though frantic to book a last-minute flight out of San Francisco, both are out of luck: Every flight is full, and there’s only one rental car available. Ashley and Dash reluctantly decide to share the car, but neither anticipates the wild ride ahead.
At first they drive in silence, but forced into close quarters Ashley and Dash can’t help but open up. Not only do they find they have a lot in common, but there’s even a spark of romance in the air. Their feelings catch them off guard—never before has either been so excited about a first meeting. But the two are in for more twists and turns along the way as they rescue a lost puppy, run into petty thieves, and even get caught up in a case of mistaken identity. Though Ashley and Dash may never reach Seattle in time for Christmas, the season is still full of surprises—and their greatest wishes may yet come true.”
This was quite a cute Christmas season book and it literally only took me an hour to read as it was that simple. I would classify this as a bodice ripper book, one of those cheaper books that you find in an airport stand or at Stop and Shop that you get so you can read quickly. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the story was cute and fluffy and great to read during the winter by your fireplace with a mug of hot chocolate, but other than that this wasn’t my kind of book.
There were so many holes in the story and it kept jumping all of. There were the FBI involved and it wasn’t really clear what was going on and it was so basic with the hole story. It was one of those stories that you would get and read only once, hence why I borrowed it from my library. I also go it because it was made into a Hallmark Channel movie and it looked cute and fluffy to watch but I really did want to read the book first because that’s how I always am.
I honestly don’t really have much to say about the story in general. It was a traditional guy and girl meet kind of story, they don’t want to fall for one another, the obligatory puppy appears and then suddenly everyone is happy and cute in the end. Traditional Hallmark material. Now if this is your kind of thing, then have at it. And reading one of these kinds of books a year is perfectly fine. Everyone needs some fluff, especially in the world we live in right now, but it wouldn’t really be a book to buy in my opinion. However, some of you may be so inclined to pay about $7 for the book. I mean it was cute and it does have a very colorful cover, which caught my attention when I picked it up, but other than that I wouldn’t really go for it.
I’d give it a 2 out of 5 stars (M.O.M would disagree – she thinks it’s cute for this time of year), just because it was a cute and easy read as Christmas Season book, but as someone who likes more meaty books, and less holes, this wasn’t exactly my cup of egg nog.
Finding a book related goodie for your book lover can be quite difficult because it’s hard to find something that they may enjoy. But after a lot of reading, and thinking what I would like as a book-lover I came up with a small, and quite inexpensive, gift list!
*This is an affiliate post and all links go to Amazon.com
1. Out of Print Banned Book Mug
What is better than a mug, because all of us readers LOVE tea or coffee while we are reading (or hot chocolate during the winter) so why not get us a mug that is book related.
2. Shakespeare Socks
All of us readers love wearing socks because they keep our feet warm as we’re curled up with our noses buried in a book. And what’s better than having the Bard himself on our socks? Maybe reading one of his works?
3. Telephone Box Themed Book Ends
With all of the books us book lovers have, we needs something to keep them standing upright, otherwise they’re going to be spilling all over. With different colors to choose from, these English Telephone Box Themed Book Ends are sure to please!
4. Book Lover Street Sign
If the book lover in your life has a special place where they read, instead of having it unmarked so uninvited guests may walk in, get them a sign which shows that this room is theirs and that what is beyond that door is magical.
5. Book Themed Clock for Keychain
Sometimes when we read we loose track of time. So what better thing then a mini clock which is book themed? Love it!
6. Book Light
Now this is useful to have. Sometimes we like to stay up late and sneak in a few more pages, or read next to your partner while they sleep, so having a small light is very convenient to finish that chapter…or book.
7. Book Lover Magnetic Poetry
This bring everyone back to their childhood. Now adults can make poetry on their fridge while they’re waiting for their tea to brew so they can finish the newest book.
8. The Book Lovers Journal
Now this is one of my favorite gifts. I may even get this for myself because it helps you record what you’ve read and your opinions on the book and if you liked it or not. For yourself or maybe for your child one day to know your favorite books when you were younger. Definitely one to add to your list.
9. Aiblophibia Sweatshirt/T-Shirt
Now this is cute! It comes as a sweatshirt or a t-shirt, but I love the sweatshirt as reading in comfy sweatshirts are amazing. And this word so is most readers – the fear of running out of books to read.
10. Leather Journal
Readers generally like to write as well and having an ancient looking leather journal is fantastic. With the blank pages you can either write or draw within the book and feel like your living in the wild or some fantasy world with the leather casing.
A little pricey but these types of journals are of excellent quality and sure to last years!
