Archangel’s Sun by Nalini Singh [Guild Hunter Book Review]

Summary

“The Archangel of Death and the Archangel of Disease may be gone but their legacy of evil lives on – especially in Africa, where the shambling, rotting creatures called the reborn have gained a glimmer of vicious intelligence.

It is up to Titus, archangel of this vast continent, to stop the reborn from spreading across the world. Titus can’t do it alone, but of the surviving powerful angels and archangels, large numbers are wounded, while the rest are fighting a surge of murderous vampires.

There is no one left . . . but the Hummingbird. Old, powerful, her mind long a broken kaleidoscope. Now she must stand at Titus’s side against a tide of death, upon a discovery more chilling than any other. For the Archangel of Disease has left them one last terrible gift . . .”

Review

Oh man, Nalini Singh does it again with another absolutely incredible book! It’s been a while since I read one of her books and was behind on a few releases, so over the past weekend I made some impulse purchases and have been absolutely devouring them. 24 hours to get through this one!

A Beautiful & Intricate Story

The Guild Hunter series is such a journey, getting to see all the main characters and even side characters, getting to see their life, their love and their pain. That is what I love about this series. While of course it is a romance story, there is just so much more than that! There is a story in each book and an overarching story throughout the series that keeps you turning pages.

Nalini Singh is a master with writing honestly. She writes with lots of beautiful adjectives, painting this ethereal picture of these creatures and places in her stories that you just feel transported there. It only take a few sentences to feel myself pulled into this world, experiencing what everyone is experiencing and just seeing both the beauty and horror.

Titus & The Hummingbird: The Perfect Balance

The Hummingbird, or Sharine, was always one of the characters I was so curious about. Her and her so Illium have wings in the book that are just this gorgeous indigo/blue color and I always wanted to know more about her. She was always referenced as this incredible artist and gentle and seeing her in this story was marvelous. You saw this wonderful progression of this woman who was perceived to be fragile who actually had warrior talents and was beautifully badass.

Singh always writes women who are powerful, kick ass, take no crap from men, yet have this beautifully sensual relationship with them and through that are just incredible. I’m always impressed how she manages to balance that fine line between the romance and keeping the woman strong and the men masculine.

Romance & Blood

This continued the story of all the reborn, following the destruction and mess created by the Archangel of Death and the Archangel of Disease. A lot of the story was following the clean up of so many of them and included the traditional Guild Hunter violence and gore that you all will be familiar with if you have read Singh’s writings before!

But in this one it was just so interesting to see with a character like The Hummingbird – a woman who was always presented as staying inside and being the artist who is now out in the thick of it getting down and dirty with Titus, the Archangel of Africa (who is just so very yummy!).

You got to see Titus go from an Archangel who was flippant with relationships and never promised anything more to him finding himself and questioning just so much. Seeing his transformation as well within the writing was just beautiful!

A Classic Nalini Singh Book!

Every book that Singh writes I absolutely devour and love to read. I get capitated and transported into the world and honestly cannot put it down. This one was no different.

I absolutely give it the 5 out of 5 teacups rating, but definitely recommend you read it as part of the whole series and not a stand alone – although technically you could, just may be a little lost!

Happy Reading!

Summary

“Midnight and dawn, Elena’s wings are unique among angelkind…and now they’re failing. The first mortal to be turned into an immortal in angelic memory, she’s regressing. Becoming more and more human. Easier to hurt. Easier to kill.

Elena and Raphael must unearth the reason for the regression before it’s too late and Elena falls out of the sky. Yet even as they fight a furious battle for Elena’s very survival, violent forces are gathering in New York and across the world.

In China, the Archangel Favashi is showing the first signs of madness. In New York, a mysterious sinkhole filled with lava swallows a man whole. In Africa, torrential monsoon rains flood rolling deserts. And in Elena’s mind whispers a haunting voice that isn’t her own.

This time, survival may not be possible…not even for the consort of an archangel.”

Review

Oh man, did I need a box of tissues for this book. Dear lord….it was a killer. If you’re a fan of this series and haven’t read this one yet, I’d say maybe to wait closer to when the next one comes out (which is like…2 years?) and then read that and the next one. Gosh, I’m not spoiling what happens but just know that it is a cliffhanger.

I know that Ms. Singh is getting a lot of backlash against the ending of this book, but I’m going to say outright that I trust her implicitly. I’ve been with her for many years now and adore her writing. I trust that she will work it out perfectly for us, but the fact I have to wait 2 years is killing me! But it’s okay. I can do this. I will stay strong and just re-read the whole series again.

Once again the story was fantastic. It followed Elena and Raphael again as the Cascade is coming, so this book was a filler in a way as nothing seriously major happened, bu tit was okay. To me, it was an intricate part of the story. You saw weakness, you saw a lot of pain, which I really liked – partially mortal Raphael is so beautiful to see. The relationship that Elena and Raphael has is just such a gorgeous one and seeing the two of them struggling but trying to be leaders at the same time is amazing!

Then when all of the Seven got together, I was like OMG! YESSSSS! OG-SQUAD!

I think one of the sad things about the book was that the side characters, like Dimitri and Illium weren’t in it as much, but we got to see a lot more of the Legion. They still confuse me with the way they speak, like Yoda and I’m convinced they know more but aren’t telling people what they know…Like tell us! SAVE PEOPLE!
OKAY SO NOW FOR THE TEA PEOPLE! THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING. IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY CLICKED THIS, CLOSE IT NOW SO YOU DON’T GET A SPOILER YOU DON’T WANT.

Okay?

Ready?!

SO LIKE WHEN RAPHAEL RIPPED OUT HIS HEART AND GAVE HIS TO ELENA?! LIKE WHAT?! I was literally screaming when I read it. I do question if he really had the ability to do that, but he is an Archangel and he’s developing so he has all these power. And when he went supersonic with his flying, I was like ‘YOU GO BOY. Save your love!’.

But okay, back to the ending! Um, so he did all that stuff and pulled his heart out which had me dying. LIKE THAT IS LOVE. Why can’t a man do that for me?! JK JK! But, I did NOT see that coming. That was like what?!

And then the ending, like the very ending. I’m totally confused who is in that container? I’m guessing a Wingless Elena? And then in the last line there were Silver eyes? Anyone know who that was or what it was? I’m guessing that is what that woman Cassandra was talking about or something?

ALSO! DID ELENAS HEART EXPLODE?! Like he woke up early and then it said something that a heart exploded, so what?! I hope she’s not dead or forgets who he is.

ALSO JESSAMY AND HER WINGS?! OMGGGGGGGGGG YESS GIRL! YOU GO!

UGH I NEED THE NEXT ONE SOON!!!!!
So, overall, it’s perfect! I absolutely adored this one, just like all the other ones. The fact that my heart is dying (no pun intended) is just a minor issue. I’ll survive for 2 years, somehow…. *runs away crying*.

If you love the series, I recommend reading it. If you can survive some pain, then read it now. If you can’t, then maybe wait a little and get it before the next book comes out. BUT READ IT!

Happy Reading!

Book Review: Archangel’s Viper by Nalini Singh

NEW RELEASE: Archangel's Viper by Nalini SinghSummary

Review

*SCREAMS* THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!

I’ve been waiting so long, since Archangel’s Heart came out and I finished that one. And of course, this book comes out on the 26th (today) and I got it on the 25th (Amazon came in clutch!) and I finished it in 3 hours. I sat down and did NOTHING else but read.

And oh my gosh it was incredible.

First, the story continues with everything else but it is a side story with Venom, which I always love. I just love that Nalini has side characters that get their own books that aren’t side stories, but are intricate parts of the entire series. It just makes it amazing. This ‘side’ book with Venom was the book that I never knew I needed. He’s such an incredible character. All I need now is to know about Illium (and have my curiosity sated about Aodhan).

As per usual, the sex was not the pain purpose. There was romance, yes, and tension, but there was little to no sex that occurred. Which is wonderful because there was so much story going on and I just couldn’t put it down because I wanted to know what happened.

The bad-guy in this was a throwback to a while ago and he was evil as ever! Can’t spoil any more than that.

It is quite a violent book of course, but not throughout. It’s little spurts of violence and bodies. It was much less violent than other books but of course there was some, and there has to be, as that’s what the book is known for!

Will I read it again? Oh yes I will be. Probably in a few days.

I love the book, I love the series and I love the author and everything she does. It’s such a unique series and a unique twist. The women are powerful, the men are sexy and the story is captivating.

I highly recommend this book, and the series, to others!

Are you reading? Have you read? Thoughts? I’d love to chat!

Happy Reading!
