New Website – College Survival 101 16

I’m very proud to announce my newest website, College Survival 101.

As a college student, I used to write little posts about college life on here. But recently, I’ve realized that I have so much more information that I’d like to share, as a college student to another college student.

So much information out there is shared by adults to students, from what they used to know, but I, personally, haven’t really found much written by students, barring some lifestyle blogs where they share tips on how to be organized and such. However a lot of it is just them wanting to present themselves as a perfect college student.

College is difficult and you will be far from perfect, which is which I started College Survival 101.

It’s full of information to survive and to get through the beginning of freshmen year, things you need to remember, tips to do well in the long run and reiterating what your parents said (maybe if someone else says the same thing you will listen).

Things have changed since your parents were in college and that’s why you may not have listened to them, or don’t want to. I was like that, so I do know.

So, here you can find all the information told to you by someone who has survived it and thrived.

Right now the website will be focusing on prospective students and freshmen but I will start to cover Masters life once I fully get into that (I’m heading that way soon!).

I hope that you find the website interesting and find something useful there. It’s perfect for college kids, so if you have a kid, or know someone, please share.

I am not writing this information just because I want to write stuff. I’ve realized how much college kids don’t know – which is surprising with the amount of time they have their noses buried in their phones. The website was created to genuinely help others and support them. And trust me, if your kid spends less time complaining later in college about wish they didn’t know, the better life will be!

BOOK MAIL ~ Send Your Favorite Book to a Stranger! 1

I don’t know about you, but I know that I am always so excited when I get book mail. But what if you could get someone else’s favorite book – not receiving something you chose?

I’ve been seeing this amazing thing going around the internet recently and I’m currently a part of it too!

Yes, there are some reports that versions of it are hoaxes and ‘illegal’ due to promising a high return, see here, which is why I don’t promise you anything. It is just to share your love of books and if you’re lucky you’ll get some great books in return!

What you do is, if you’re interested, choose your favorite book and send it to a complete stranger! Who knows where you’ll be sending your favorite book to!

The book doesn’t need to be brand new also! Gently used ones are always perfect to send!

Amazon has some perfect copies of almost any book for only a few dollars, if you’re a little tight on money, or you can splurge and get a fantastic edition of your favorite novel.

Send it away with some little bites and pieces and wait to hear back, or just know that whoever received it will really enjoy the gift!

BOOK MAIL ~ Send Your Favorite Book to a Stranger!

Interested?
Here’s what you need to do to join in!

  1. Comment down below that you’re in! If you don’t want to comment, then either send me a tweet (@mlwco) or email me at mylibrarycardworeout [at] gmail [dot] com!
  2. I will send you the name and address of an individual to send your favorite book to. What you send is completely up to you. Please be respectful and keep all book appropriate!
  3. You will share this ‘book mail chain’ on all of your social media. Either share this blog post and tell them to comment who sent them, or make your own up and share it. I will then send you an address to have your next recipient send their books to.
  4. You will tell that individual to pass the chain along!
  5. When you receive books, let me know what you get and share some pictures!

It’s a pretty straight forward process. I absolutely love the idea! Now, once again, I will say I cannot promise how many, if any, you will receive back. I didn’t mind because I just loved to share books with others. I don’t need anything back. Just keep in mind, while you send, you are not guaranteed anything back. BUT, I’d be happy to send a few out, because why not!!!

Comment if you’re interested!

Refugee Week @ Waterstones

With everything going on in the United States currently, I feel like this is an appropriate time that this event is happening (although it’s in the U.K.).

What is it?

“Launched in 1988, Refugee Week is a nationwide programme of events and activities that recognise the contribution of refugees to British society and the continuing importance of offering sanctuary to those in need. To mark Refugee Week, we’ve gathered together a range of reading that raises awareness of the experience of refugees, including thought-provoking true stories, original fiction and inspirational books for children.”

-From Waterstones

Definitely check out some of these books because they’ll give you a little peek into their lives and their experiences. An average person will never know what their lives are like and understanding what they go through can help you make informed decisions in your life and just give you a broader perspective.

Oh, I Wish I’d Looked After Me Teeth ~ Pam Ayres

Oh, I Wish I’d Looked After Me Teeth by Pam Ayres

Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth,
And spotted the dangers beneath
All the toffees I chewed,
And the sweet sticky food.
Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth.

I wish I’d been that much more willin’
When I had more tooth there than fillin’
To give up gobstoppers,
From respect to me choppers,
And to buy something else with me shillin’.

When I think of the lollies I licked
And the liquorice allsorts I picked,
Sherbet dabs, big and little,
All that hard peanut brittle,
My conscience gets horribly pricked.

My mother, she told me no end,
‘If you got a tooth, you got a friend.’
I was young then, and careless,
My toothbrush was hairless,
I never had much time to spend.

Oh I showed them the toothpaste all right,
I flashed it about late at night,
But up-and-down brushin’
And pokin’ and fussin’
Didn’t seem worth the time – I could bite!

If I’d known I was paving the way
To cavities, caps and decay,
The murder of fillin’s,
Injections and drillin’s,
I’d have thrown all me sherbet away.

So I lie in the old dentist’s chair,
And I gaze up his nose in despair,
And his drill it do whine
In these molars of mine.
‘Two amalgam,’ he’ll say, ‘for in there.’

How I laughed at my mother’s false teeth,
As they foamed in the waters beneath.
But now comes the reckonin’
It’s methey are beckonin’
Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth.

And if you want complete joy you can listen to Pam Ayres herself read it Here.
