Christmas, Christmas, Time is Near!!

It seems that yet once again we are getting the twinkling lights out and the tinsel, and the messy but lovely christmas tree. Yes, Christmas is rolling around yet again. I do not know about you but one thing that I look forward to every year is the reading. My mom and I always read, The Wild Christmas Reindeer by Jan Brett, The Christmas Humbugs by Collen Monroe, Dream Snow by Eric Carl, and The Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore. I enjoy the annual story time when we read the same books and more. I know that some older children out there might think that it is babyish to read with your parents and read picture books no less, but the fact is that one day you will miss that and say “Why did I not do it when I was younger.” You want to do it now before it is too late.

Only a couple of years ago, I would sit up late at the computer tracking santa. I would stay up to about 9:00 and see that Santa was on his way and I would go to bed so he would not miss my house. If you want to track Santa click here. It is a really fun thing to do. See where he has been and where he is going. But Christmas is not just about the presents. It is about spending time with family and friends and giving to others. It also is about Jesus Christ’s birth. If you have a younger child or sibling and you want to teach them about Jesus’s birth, there are many great picture books out there with all of the information needed for the young minds. One book is about a donkey that is being treated badly and then the donkey meets Saint Francis and he tells him a story about Jesus’s birth and how his kind made it possible. It is called Saint Francis and The Donkey by Robert Byrd.

So if you do not get many gifts of any at all, do not be sad. The most important thing is that you are with friends and family.

If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late by Pseudonymous Bosch

Yes I know that Pseudonymous Bosh (PB) would not approve of my reviewing this book (because of the secret) but I just cannot help myself. I love this book and I really think that you (as in people who read my blog) will too. I know that PB will not approve of this but……….I just cannot help myself.

This book is a follow on from the last book The Name Of This Book Is SECRET.

Review

I know that the summary is all X’s and that is because knowing me I would give all of the secrets away. I am the type of person who will tell you that the name of the main characters are Cass and Max-Earnest  and…………

Wait.

WHAT????????

I just did it again. I TOLD YOU THE NAMES OF THE MAIN

CHARACTERS. HUFF PUFF HUFF PUFF. I AM

HYPERVENTILATING.

OK. OK. I have got to calm down. I know that PB tells you them in the book but you have to sign a promise in the beginning. I did not make one. You did not sign a promise. OK will you just do this for me.

This is our little promise.

I _______________________ will not tell ANYONE the names of the characters that MyLibraryCardWoreOut just disclosed.

If I do I will never again read MyLibraryCardWoreOuts blog.

Sign this line for me.

Thank you very much. Now what ever I tell you about PB’s books are only between you, me, and the computer.

Anyway.

This book is full of surprises (and secrets.) Every time you turn a page you do not know what to expect. At one point in the book I thought one thing was going to happen but something totally different happened. This is a really GREAT book and I just hope Pseudonymous Bosh keeps writing.

Happy Reading!!!!!!

Who Has Seen The Wind? Christina Rossetti

Who Has Seen the Wind?

by Christina Georgina Rossetti
(1830-1894)

Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you.
But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I.
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.

84-FallingAutumnLeaves

Autumn is a beautiful time of year because of the leaves. The leaves fall and gracefully make their way down. My mother says “The leaves dance, and when they catch the wind, they come twirling and swirling down.” So sitting in my reading chair reading and thinking up new ideas for my blog, I watch the leaves dance and swirl and think, ‘My dad has to clean this up.’

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by J.K. Rowling

I know that every one reviews Harry Potter and everyone know about the book but there is more to the book then just the story line. It is not just about witches and wizards and magic. There is more to just what it seems.

When I first read the book some time back, I enjoyed it throughly. But 3 days ago I decided to read it again. Just to refresh my memory. I have just finished the book today and boy did I enjoy it better than the first time. I did not have to concentrate as much because I am above the reading level and I knew what to expect. I have noticed that when I read a book multiple times, I seem to notice things that I have not noticed before. In Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, I noticed that there was an extremely strong friendship between Harry, Ron, and Hermione. If they had not been friends Harry would not have been able to defeat the Dark Lord. I also noticed that Snape is actually not that bad in the beginning books. Even though everyone knows what happens in the last few books (if you don’t you will just have to read it to find out.) But in the beginning Snape is mean and has a very rude tone but it is true that he does try to save Harry’s life on a few occasions. I do think that when you hear that people read the first Harry Potter book 5 times you think ‘Oh wow. They must like reading.’ Well there is a difference between reading a book and reading a book (and no I did not make a mistake.) You can read a book just to read it or you can read a book to read and enjoy the experience. I know a good book when I find one. I know because I will do anything to read the book. I will feel like I am actually part of what is going on. I am not saying that this is how a good book should be but some people just read the book for the sake of reading it. Harry Potter is not a book that you just sit down and read. You have to concentrate because there are a lot of things going on and if you do not concentrate, you are going to miss something crucial. If you have not read the books you are missing out on somethings extremely special.

Books are like old friends and when you finish the book you do not want to let the friend go.
